Richard read Classics and Law at Peterhouse, Cambridge and was called to the Bar in 1976. After some 8 years in commercial/legal positions in shipping and with BP, he then started his career in the process engineering construction sector by working as in house counsel for MW Kellogg Limited and Davy McKee (London) Limited. He then joined Lurgi (UK) Limited in 1991 initially as its commercial manager and going on to become its head of legal and with responsibility also for procurement. Since 2002 he has worked on his own within Adams Legal Limited in the process engineering industry and on a worldwide basis.

He has over 30 years’ experience as a non contentious lawyer, including in-house legal and commercial experience. His expertise also extends to dealing with the collateral agreements and securities typically expected of contractors and key suppliers both within and outside PFI financed projects.
