Taner Dedezade – (Counsel)

Taner Dedezade is an international construction barrister, with some 25 years’ experience, specialising in the resolution of international construction and engineering disputes, mostly concerning projects based on FIDIC contracts. He represents both international contractors (current clients include ACC, H.F.Wiebe, WTE Wassertechnik, Emek Insaat Sti Ltd, and Strukton Immersion Projects BV) and employers (current clients include the Government of Serbia) and has been involved in projects in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, undertaking advocacy as necessary in both DAB and arbitration proceedings.

Taner is an expert in FIDIC contracts whose expertise as counsel was recognised:

  • with his ranking as an ‘up and coming’ lawyer in Chambers UK 2016 with clients saying he “has the ability to link the FIDIC to the legal context of different countries. He is a qualified barrister and advises a range of clients in arbitrations across the world.”
  • In Legal 500 2017, which records that “In 2016 the firm secured a number of new employer clients, including the Government of Serbia and the Government of Georgia, and Corbett and counsel Taner Dedezade acted for the former in Dispute Adjudication Board proceedings relating to various claims brought by the contractor in relation to a complex tunnel project.”

His expertise as a speaker has been recognised:

  • With his award as FIDIC Trainer of the Year 2020 (and nomination as a finalist in 2019)
  • With his invitation to deliver to the FIDIC President’s List online Top-up training on the FIDIC 2017 forms. So far Taner has lectured 2/3rds of the members of the Presidents list.

After reading law, Taner was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 1996 and practised as a barrister for over 10 years. Taner has an MSc (Merit) in Construction Law and Arbitration from King’s College, London (in which he was awarded the Bickerdike Allen prize), and a diploma (Merit) in International Commercial Arbitration from Queen Mary College, London (achieving a distinction in his dissertation). He now lectures particularly on FIDIC DABs, acts as a tutor and dissertation supervisor on the King’s MSc course. 

He has particular expertise in the enforcement of DAB decisions having acted as sole counsel in arbitration proceedings concerning the same and having written various articles on this complex subject. He contributed a chapter on the enforcement of DAB decisions to “Transnational Construction Arbitration” edited by Professor Renato Nazzini. Taner’s article, “Mind the gap” [2012] Int ALR 145”, was cited favourably by Mr Justice Edwards-Stuart in Peterborough City Council v Enterprise Managed Services Limited [2014] EWHC 3193 (TCC).
