Martin joined Corbett & Co in 2011. Although he is now retired and no longer on the Roll he still provides specialist non-contentious advice to Corbett & Co on an as-required basis.
After reading law at Oriel College, Oxford, he was admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales in 1976 and in Hong Kong in 1978. He returned to England in 1980 and joined Nabarro Nathanson, initially in their corporate team, but soon developing a specialist practice in the then new field of non-contentious construction law. He headed Nabarro’s Construction Department for 10 years from its formation until he left in 1997 to spend 7 years as a partner at Norton Rose, followed by a further 7 years as a full-time consultant at Herbert Smith.
Martin’s nearly 30 years’ experience as a non-contentious construction lawyer has included advising sponsors, developers, funders, contractors and suppliers on numerous energy (including oil, gas, nuclear and renewables), infrastructure, PFI and real estate development projects and related major equipment supply contracts. He is familiar with FIDIC and most other international standard forms of contract as well as the UK standard building contract forms.
He has been a CEDR Accredited Mediator and a regular speaker at the International Bar Association, and for over 10 years he was the UK correspondent for the International Construction Law Review.
